Understanding sexually harmful behaviours and assessing and managing risk can be a complex and demanding task, leaving professionals feeling powerless about how to respond to young people with these behaviours. The AIM2 framework is currently the most up-to -date initial risk tool in the UK. The assessment model offers an initial evidence-based tool that can be used to begin to consider both the level of supervision that is required for young people and their therapeutic needs. It is holistic in nature and based on research about young people who sexually abuse others. It has recently been updated to incorporate use for girls and young people with learning difficulties.
The course will:
- Consider pathways into sexually harmful behaviours in young people
- Provide an overall approach and philosophy to working with young people with sexually harmful behaviour
- Provide an understanding of the AIM2 Initial Assessment Model
- Give participants the opportunity to use the model using case studies
- Consider engagement and motivation for young people and their families in the assessment process
- Offer an opportunity to plan and facilitate sessions with a young person
- Provide participants with a selection of exercises and tools to use with young people and their parents
