Summary:
In response to concerns raised by victims that changes brought about by the Children (Care and Justice) (Scotland) Act, relating to a likely increase in the number of 16- and 17-year-olds who commit offences being referred to the Children’s Hearings System, SCRA undertook research to identify how the needs and experiences of individuals harmed by children could be better met. The research explored how the rights of children who cause harm and those of the children they harm can both be fully realised within the Scottish Youth Justice system. It also identified support for restorative justice expressed amongst both victims and young people. This webinar will discuss findings from this research.

Bio: Judy Warburton, Research Officer, Scottish Children’s Reporters Administration
Judy has been researching in the field of children’s rights and youth justice for over 10 years, with a particular interest in the meaningful participation for children of all ages in decision making about their lives. She has been part of the SCRA research team for the last 2 years and her latest project has been looking at Victim Information to support the implementation of the 2024 Children Care and Justice Act.
