CYCJ is formally announcing that we are now an academic partner with the Global Centre for Contextual Safeguarding at Durham University, and the launch of our dedicated webpage to compile relevant information about Contextual Safeguarding in Scotland, including how it fits within existing policy and practice frameworks. This means that CYCJ will be supporting practitioners in Scotland to learn, develop practice and embed Contextual Safeguarding in Scotland.
Contextual Safeguarding was developed by Professor Carlene Firmin, and offers a framework to safeguard children from experiencing extra-familial harm by responding to the social conditions that lead to such harm.
Contextual Safeguarding is relevant to all forms of harm outside the home, which can affect people across all age groups. In Scotland, Contextual Safeguarding is a national approach, placed within GIRFEC and GIRFE, across the age spectrum and life course.
