The child’s journey: A guide to the Scottish justice system

The child’s journey: A guide to the Scottish justice system is an interactive online resource that aims to simplify how the youth and criminal justice system works for under 18s in Scotland. It was developed by CYCJ and Iriss, and introduced in January 2016.

The resource is also useful for families looking to support a young person in the youth and criminal justice system.

‘The child’s journey’ is accompanied by  ‘Journey through Justice’  aimed directly at children and young people. The name, as well as its look and content, was devised by young people from a number of settings, working closely with CYCJ and Iriss.

In 2021, this resource was rebranded as ‘The child’s journey’ to recognise a shift in youth justice towards child-centred services and legislation, and an increasing focus on children’s rights in Scotland. It was previously called ‘‘Youth and Criminal Justice in Scotland: the Young Person’s Journey’.
