Holly Bird (she/her)

Research Assistant

Holly joined the CYCJ as a Research Assistant in July 2024 and will be providing research support for a range of projects across the CYCJ research, participation, and practice teams.

Holly has experience working in criminal justice research and policy in the charity, academic, and private sectors. Prior to joining CYCJ, she worked as a Research and Policy Officer at Black-led charity StopWatch for two years, focusing on stop and search, abuse of power, and racism and racial disproportionality in UK policing. During her time as an Analyst at Crest Advisory, Holly worked on a project which aimed to understand children and young people’s experiences of serious violence – and their perspectives on potential solutions – in a county council area in England. Holly has also spent time working in academic publishing as an Assistant Editor at Oxford University Press and as a freelance researcher on a variety of criminal justice-related topics, including the UK government’s piloting of serious violence reduction orders and deaths in prison and police custody.

Holly holds an MSc in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Oxford, where she was the recipient of the St Cross Divisional Scholarship (Social Sciences), and an LLB in Law and French from the University of Edinburgh, where she was awarded the Joelle Godard Prize and the McClintock Prize in Criminology.
