CYCJ, in collaboration with the Centre for Lifelong Learning at the University of Strathclyde, have created online learning opportunities on a range of different topics. These interactive eLearning modules take approximately 4 hours to complete and are designed for professionals in the youth justice workforce responding to the behaviour of children and young people, that could be causing harm to others and bringing them into conflict with the law. Each instance of learning has been designed in collaboration with experts in that particular field to increase awareness for the learner in themes and topics relevant to this sector. Although each module has its own tailored aims and objectives, overall, learners can expect to gain a deeper knowledge of subjects whilst also enhancing skills that can be applied in practice. All modules will lead the learner through self paced, online learning, with interactive scenarios, reflective exercises and practical tools for immediate application. Learners have access to each module for two years from the date of enrolment. Paid for modules cost £30 per learner, and can be combined with any number of other modules. Candidates can enrol using the links below:
Formulation:
The Risk Management Authority (RMA) and the Children and Young People’s Centre for Justice (CYCJ) have produced this introduction to Formulation in risk practice for children in conflict with the law. Understanding the ‘why’ behind behaviours for children and young people who find themselves in conflict with the law is central to effective risk practice and management. Key features of this learning instance are defining formulation as well as the key benefits of its use, recognising good vs poor formulation, using a case study to illustrate how formulation can inform our risk management plans and understanding the benefits of collaborative formulation.

The Children (Care and Justice) (Scotland) Act 2024:
CYCJ are delighted to launch another eLearning module to learners this month free of charge. We have developed this instance of learning to raise awareness about the legislative changes made by the Children (Care and Justice) (Scotland) Act 2024. It is relevant for professionals who have contact with children who may be involved with the children’s hearing, care or justice settings for their care and protection or because they are in conflict with the law. The module has been developed ahead of all sections of the Act commencing to allow practitioners to understand and prepare for these changes before they fully come into force in practice. The module will continue to be updated as the Act commences and new guidance or resources specific to particular sections of the Act are developed.
This instance of eLearning is not targeted at any one particular agency but it is likely to be useful for: social workers (across services), residential child care workers, secure care staff, advocacy workers, police officers, Procurator Fiscals, Scottish Court and Tribunals Service staff, children’s reporters, panel members, safeguarders, lawyers, the judiciary, health professionals, education staff and third sector employees.
