The Children and Young People’s Centre for Justice (CYCJ) is calling for 16 to 25 year olds with experience of child protection or the justice system to help it shape a set of standards for Scotland’s Bairns Hoose.
Bairns’ Hoose – based on an Icelandic model “Barnahus” – will bring together children’s services in a ‘four rooms’ approach with child protection, health, justice and recovery services all made available in one setting – reducing the number of times children have to recount their experiences to different professionals.
CYCJ will work together with children and young people in a safe and trusted environment, using creative approaches to reflect on the draft standards, encourage discussion and facilitate the sharing of views and ideas.
This is a unique opportunity for young people who have experienced these issues to develop a trauma informed and rights-respecting service that will help children and young people throughout Scotland. Participants will be compensated for their time, and supported throughout.
If you are aged 16-25 years old and have been a victim or witness to abuse or violence (or know someone who has and may wish to be involved), we’d love to hear from you. Please email julia.swann@strath.ac.uk to find out more or discuss.
