Children’s Care and Justice Bill – Consultation on Policy Proposals

The Children’s Care and Justice Bill – Consultation on Policy Proposals launched today. The Consultation invites views on a range of matters including the Children’s Hearings System; the criminal justice system; secure care; cross-border placements; and the review period for the age of criminal responsibility.

The consultation will run for 12 weeks until June 22, 2022 and can be found on the Scottish Government’s website here and consultation hub Citizen Space here. In addition to the main consultation document, a conversation guide has been developed to support workers to capture the views of children and young people on these proposed changes available here. An Easy Read version of the consultation will be published imminently.

Consultation events for stakeholders and children and young people

CYCJ and the Scottish Government will also be hosting two round table events which are open to all interested stakeholders. These will take place on May 17 at 1pm, and May 30 at 10am; both will be held via Microsoft Teams. If you are interested in attending, please email cycj@strath.ac.uk with your preferred date.

To ensure children and young people get to have their say on the consultation, we are also hosting two open sessions with the Scottish Government for children, young people and anyone under the age of 26.  These will take place on May 31 from 2-4pm, and June 8 (6pm-8pm). Please share details of these events with your networks.
