On Wednesday, 22 May, CYCJ was very pleased to welcome a visit from Angela Constance, Cabinet Secretary for Justice and Home Affairs, Scottish Government.
A key aspect of her portfolio is youth justice and this dominated our discussion. We talked about many parts of our work including the implementation of the Children (Care and Justice) (Scotland) Bill, diversion from prosecution, child criminal exploitation and our participation work with children and young people in Polmont.
Fiona Dyer, CYCJ Director: “It was fantastic for the Cabinet Secretary to CYCJ centre and here about some of the great work we are doing. With the Children (Care and Justice) (Scotland) Bill having just recently been passed and the UNCRC coming into force in July, this is a pivotal time for youth justice in Scotland. We are working very closely with the Scottish Government and other key stakeholders to make all policy and practice rights respecting for children in conflict with the law.”
CYCJ would like to thank the Cabinet Secretary and her staff for their time.
