CYCJ welcomes the Scottish Government’s response to the Reimagining Secure Care (RSC) report

The Children and Young People’s Centre for Justice (CYCJ) very much welcomes the Scottish Government’s response to the Reimagining Secure Care (RSC) report. Particularly the emphasis within the Scottish Government’s paper on working to “reduce the need for secure care” and creating a system which “responds earlier and more effectively”.

We look forward to working collectively with Government and all other key stakeholders to take this forward.

CYCJ was commissioned by the Scottish Government to reimagine a future for secure care and alternatives to secure care in Scotland, and published three reports in September 2024 (available here).  The RSC report identified three core components needed to ensure the system effectively met the needs of individual children: Flex-secure, Community-based hubs and multi-disciplinary teams.

We welcome the Scottish Government’s commitment to explore these three core components in more detail with key partners.

CYCJ would also like to express our thanks and appreciation for the Scottish Government’s dedication to Dr Ruby Whitelaw.
