Head of Practice Development Opportunity as Karen Ralston announces retirement

Karen Ralston has announced that she will be stepping back from her post as Deputy Director in April, to spend more time with her family. Reflecting on her time as part of the leadership team at CYCJ, and her social work career in general, Karen said:

“My heart is filled with a myriad of emotions as I bid farewell after a fulfilling career in social work and wish to take this opportunity to acknowledge my appreciation of the valued relationships and kindred spirit of the many individuals I have worked with, and most importantly to Fiona and the team in CYCJ. It has been a hugely rewarding job and a real privilege to work also with a range of partners and agencies to ensure better outcomes and life chances for children and young people.”

We would like to thank Karen for her passion and dedication during her time as part of the CYCJ team – she will be much missed.

Karen’s retirement means there is an opportunity for an experienced professional to head up our Practice Development team, ensuring that children and young people are able to meaningfully influence policy and practice. The successful candidate will help to shape our overall strategic direction, and will provide effective leadership and supervision for our team of Practice Development Advisers.

Responsible for leading on the development of our Annual Workplan, the successful candidate will also provide detailed reporting on the Practice Development workstream; they will deputise for the Director as required, ensuring that effective relationships are maintained with a range of stakeholders, including Scottish Government, WSA Leads, NYJAG and more.
