Postgraduate Certificate – funded placement opportunity

The Children and Young People’s Centre for Justice (CYCJ) is delighted to announce that it is able to offer one fully funded place on its Postgraduate Certificate course, commencing in January 2023.

This place is open to people of all ages who have experience of the justice system. It will cover the full course cost of £2,433.

This scholarship is supported by The Lady Eileen McDonald Fund, which supports and celebrates exceptional students and student-centred initiatives at the University of Strathclyde.

About the course

This exciting course was introduced in 2022 by CYCJ to provide a professional postgraduate qualification for those who wish to improve outcomes for children and young people who are on the edges of, or in conflict with, the law.

As a fully online, part-time course, it offers the flexibility to grow knowledge, skills and continued professional development whilst maintaining existing professional and personal commitments. Find out more about the course here.

Who are we looking for?

CYCJ is committed to ensuring everyone has the same learning opportunities and enabling inclusion from a wide range of backgrounds. That’s why we are offering a scholarship to someone with experience of the justice system who would like to use this opportunity to help improve how we do justice in Scotland. You may have completed a custodial sentence, been in police custody or received a caution. It could also include involvement with the Children’s Hearing System, through being in conflict with the law. This all counts towards being what we define as ‘justice experienced’.

You’ll be required to have a relevant undergraduate degree or professional qualification and demonstrate capacity for postgraduate study. If you are unsure about your qualification or would like more information, we are happy to discuss this with you.

How do I apply?

If you are interested, please apply through the University course webpage, specifying that you would like to be considered for the scholarship. The closing date for applications is October 31, 2022.

To find out more about this scholarship, or to discuss your application, please email cycj@strath.ac.uk.
