Criminal Justice Process for Children – Flowcharts

CYCJ has published 3 flowcharts that help to explain some of the key steps in the process from a child being arrested and charged with an offence, through to the point of sentence. Where wording in one of the boxes is underlined this means that there is a link that you can follow that will take you to more detailed legislation or guidance. This is an initial version, and will be reviewed and updated at regular intervals as further legislation is implemented.

Flowchart 1 – Arrest and preparation for initial hearing

Flowchart 2 – Initial court hearing

Flowchart 3 – Subsequent court hearings and sentencing
