CYCJ response to the New South Wales committee inquiry

The New South Wales Legislative Council’s Select Committee on Youth Justice is currently conducting an inquiry into youth justice. As part of this, the Committee asked for international examples of best practice, specifically referencing Scotland, and contacted us at the Children and Young People’s Centre for Justice (CYCJ).

In our response we detailed the ongoing but decisive shift over the past twenty years in Scotland from a punitive approach to a greater focus on prevention, diversion and treating children as children.
