This year’s National Youth Justice Conference (hosted by CYCJ, the Scottish Government and NYJAG) took place on June 15 and 16. The theme of ‘Our journey to rights-respecting justice’ attracted high calibre speakers from across the world, including Professor Ann Skelton (UNESCO Chair in Education Law in Africa); Dr Diana Johns (University of Melbourne); Professor Steve Case (author of Positive Youth Justice, Loughborough University); Sheriff Susan Craig (Interim Director of Scotland’s Judicial Institute); and Professor Ursula Kilkelly (University College Cork, Oberstown Children Detention Campus).
Delegates also heard from Police Scotland, Our Hearings Our Voices, Youth Justice Voices and Blue Triangle, as well as enjoying musical performance by Sistema Scotland’s ‘Big Noise’ and SoundSational community choir. A wide variety of workshops explored the conference theme further.
Chairs for Day 1 were Sheriff David Mackie and Beth-Anne Logan, while Fiona Dyer (Director, CYCJ) and Hannah Snow chaired day 2.
