Jennifer is Professor of Practice and Executive Director of the Institute for Inspiring Children’s Futures at the University of Strathclyde–a joint venture between the Centre for Excellence for Looked After Children (CELCIS) and CYCJ. We have a vision of ensuring that children and young people facing adversity have what they need to reach their full potential, and believe that real and lasting change can happen by improving practice and policy, and implementing innovations in children’s services.
Jennifer is driven by a commitment to children’s rights having an impact on children’s day-to-day lived experiences, and on the reality of international rights improving local children’s services throughout the world. Her leadership of national children’s services change programmes, as well as in the range of international projects for the implementation of the UN Guidelines for the Alternative Care of Children, reflect this motivation. Jennifer’s range of leadership positions in child and youth care, social work and professional education spans Canada, the United States and the UK. She has served on national and international committees related to children’s services, and was a founding member of the US National Campaign for the Ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
