Dr Ruby Whitelaw

Practice Development Advisor - secure care

Ruby is Practice Development Advisor and Secure Care Lead at CYCJ. After qualifying as a social worker in 1998, Ruby became a residential child care worker with a large third sector organisation. She worked at Kibble for 25 years, and following promotion in 2002, she helped to set up an alternative residential service for young people on the edges of secure care.

Ruby has worked across a range of settings including secure care, intensive fostering and residential care as a manager.  She recently completed her PhD on ‘What factors support successful transitions for residential care experienced young people in Scotland’.

For the past two years Ruby has been a centre champion involved in both the development and implementation of the Secure Care Pathway and Standards.
