Viktoria (Viki) Sebhelyi (she/her)

Research Associate

Viki’s role as Research Associate involves providing analytical support to the Bairns’ Hoose Unit for the Pathfinder phase of the Scottish Government’s Pathfinder program, aiming to improve children’s rights to justice, ensure their safety, and provide access to recovery support to bring Scotland closer to transformational change.

Most of her work has been in non-governmental organizations in Hungary and in the European Union focusing on children’s and women’s rights. Her involvement in policymaking in the counter-human trafficking area earned her the 2017 State Department Trafficking in Persons Hero (TIP Hero) Award. Viki has worked as a researcher or program associate on human trafficking and participated in more than thirty projects. She previously worked on the establishment of the Hungarian Barnahus (Child Hearing and Therapy Centres) system as a consultant. Her tasks included research planning, setting up a Child Advisory Board, and contributing to the protocol of the institution. She is a member of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Experts on the Prevention of Violence (ENF – VAE), which is a subcommittee of the Steering Committee for the Rights of the Child.

Viki holds a master’s degree in sociology and is pursuing a never-ending doctorate in education sociology.  As a researcher, Viki is interested in identifying mechanisms for referral systems, secondary victimization, sexual exploitation, and child-friendly justice.
